The OPTIFAST Weight Loss Program
July 2011
OPTIFAST is a form of weight loss therapy for obese individuals who need to lose large amounts of weight. It is a medically supervised program offered by physicians, dietitians and other health care professionals who are specially trained in obesity management. There are five different steps to the OPTIFAST medical weight loss program.
Step 1
Locate an OPTIFAST clinic in Beverly Hills or Bakersfield. You’ll meet with the doctors and dietitians who will help you set goals, and your overall health and lifestyle will be medically evaluated.
Step 2
Step 2 can last up to 12 weeks. During this phase you’ll eat OPTIFAST soups, shakes and bars for each of your daily meals. You’ll only be eating OPTIFAST products during this phase.
Step 3
This is the transition phase, and it can last up to six weeks. During this period you’ll be replacing two of your meals with OPTIFAST products. A dietitian will help you learn how to prepare low-calorie meals consisting of healthy foods around 500 calories each.
Step 4
Step 4 is the maintenance phase. You’ll be replacing only one meal with an OPTIFAST product, and your dietitian will guide you on what other meals to eat.
Step 5
This is the stabilization phase and by this point you’ll have met your weight loss goals and you no longer need the OPTIFAST meal replacement products. You will have learned how to eat healthy meals and your daily caloric intake will be around 1500 calories per day.
During the entire process you’ll be consuming up to 2 liters of water a day and the medical professionals will be carefully monitoring your progress. Once you begin eating home cooked meals you’ll also be advised to eat at least 2 cups of dark leafy greens such as cabbage, broccoli and lettuces. This program may not be for everyone, but it does work and it is medically supervised.
