10 Cellulite Myths Debunked
September 2015
Ninety percent of all women have cellulite somewhere. While you and all your neighbors may have it, few people know much about this unpleasant but ultimately harmless condition. Read on to get the truth about cellulite myths:
1. “Cellulite can be cured using creams.”
Don’t waste your money, most creams don’t work. Weight loss is one of the only ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite on your own. For advice on ointments and lotions you should speak with your medical weight loss doctor before spending a dime.
2. “Cellulite is caused by toxins released by your fat tissue.”
In reality, cellulite and other fat have the same chemical composition.
3. “Drinking water can get rid of cellulite.”
Water consumption can only affect skin problems if you are severely dehydrated. Over-consumption of water can actually make cellulite more apparent.
4. “Cellulite only appears on the thighs and buttocks.”
In fact, cellulite can appear anywhere on your body. It’s not uncommon to have it on your belly or on the back of the neck.
5. “Cellulite is just fat.”
While it is true that it is fat, it is a specific type that has been trapped right under the top subcutaneous layer.
6. “Liposuction can eliminate cellulite.”
Unfortunately, cellulite is resistant to lipo because of the way that it is trapped inside connective tissue.
7. “Only older women are affected by cellulite.”
In truth, women of any age are able to develop this frustrating condition.
8. “Dieting and working out can get rid of cellulite.”
While this is not true, weight loss and healthy eating habits can reduce the appearance of cellulite.
9. “Only obese people get cellulite.”
The truth is that absolutely anyone can develop cellulite, whether they are overweight or not.
10. “Only women get cellulite.”
Not true at all. Both men and women get cellulite. It is often more difficult to notice on some men because they have lower levels of body fat overall.
